The App store on itunes changes all the time. Here is a link to their education website that will always have the most up to date apps and information. Many of these apps have a “lite” free version which will give you a chance to see what the app is like before buying it.

Starfall ABC- Preschool- 1st grade: The "ABCs" section of Starfall.com's well-loved website, is now available as an application for iPods, iPhones and iPads! Our activities motivate through positive reinforcement and play. Children delight as they see, hear, and interact with letters and sounds in words, sentences, and games. They learn to recognize letters and develop phonics skills that will ensure they become confident readers. All children, and especially English language learners, benefit. This app is great for practicing sounds.
I Write Words- iWriteWords teaches your child handwriting while playing a fun and entertaining game. Help Mr. Crab collect the numbers in sequence by dragging him with your finger - and drawing the letter at the same time. Once all the letters in the word are drawn properly, a cute drawing appears. Tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch and watch the letters slide into the rotating hole and advance to the next level. Brainpop- The BrainPOP Featured Movie app delivers fresh, animated movies every day, with content relevant to significant historical and current events such as Earth Awareness and Financial Literacy topics in April. After watching the Featured Movie, students can test their new knowledge with the accompanying interactive quiz. Teacher note: Some of the content is higher level and may be a challenge for primary grades. Word Magic -It is an excellent application for kids to have fun with words and their spellings and learn them. A picture is shown and the kids should select the missing letter for the picture. The picture for the word will be read out loud. There are different levels that let you figure out the beginning, middle or ending sounds. Tumble Books To Go- TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books that features text, narration, animation, and sentence highlighting which makes reading accessible and fun and is a great tool for early readers seeking to improve their reading skills. There are MANY different packs of books you can buy. The kids love listening and following the text as it’s read. Just look up Tumble Books to go on itunes and it will list all the books they offer. The “6 packs” seem to be the best deals! Spell Blocks- says the word and offers the scrambled letter choices for them to choose from. Your child then touches and moves each letter to the correct place. Many features and options including: - Word Flagging (Flag the words your child already knows). This can be turned off. - Word Proficiency scale (Shows how well your child knows each word, NICE FEATURE!). - Five different word levels (pre-primer, primer, first grade, second grade, and third grade). - Add extra letters to make it a little harder. - Automatically proceed to the next word. - Repeat the current word. - Differentiates between words, colors, and numbers. - View all word lists and proficiency levels separately! - Positive reinforcement learning, Spell Blocks simply moves a wrongly placed letter back to the list. - Scores your child's current session. ABC Tracer- Great practice for your child if they are forming their letters the wrong way. The current update added sight words for tracing. E- books by Oceanhouse Media- To find look up Oceanhouse Media in the itunes app store. New features only available in this e-book include professional narration, background audio and enlarged artwork for each scene. To promote reading in young children, individual words are highlighted as the story is read and words zoom up when pictures are touched. Math Magic- a simple background is the setting for a straightforward quiz of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Beneath each equation are four possible answers that the user must choose from. When the correct answer is selected, a young child’s voice congratulates the user with one of several exclamations. Get it wrong and the voice gives a word of encouragement and the user tries again until the correct answer is chosen. Don’t know an answer? Shake the phone to move to the next problem. Math Match-up- Pair tiles that equal the same numerical amount to clear the board; as your mastery improves you can try to get to a higher level and beat your previous score. Each game level has a new tile layout, so in addition to mastering the math, you’ll use logic and strategy to solve the puzzles. Math Bumpies - You choose a tropically-themed character, and then bump, jump, and roll him or her through 10 levels of math problems and landscape that includes beaches, quicksand, shark-infested waters, and jewel caves. Kids Math Ace- Addition and subtraction practice using pictures to help them find the answer. This is a great app if your child is learning or struggling with the concept of addition and subtraction. Math Bingo- The object of Math Bingo is to get a pattern of five Bingo Bugs in a row by correctly answering math problems. Math problems are presented at the top of the game screen. There are four different games in Math Bingo: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Players will be prompted to select a game type before game play.Bingo Bugs are rewards for achieving a high score. A player who earns a high score will collect a Bingo Bug! Players can collect a variety of Bingo Bugs and interact with them by tapping the Bingo Bug button in the player profile or by tapping the My Bingo Bugs button after playing a game. HINT: Tilt your device to make the Bingo Bugs move around, tap on a Bingo Bug to make them giggle and spring! Coin Math-It’s great for learning to identify and count coins, and learning to make change. It can also be used to learn or reinforce counting by 5's, 10's and 25's. It’s great that both sides of the coins were used within the application, and the coins were to scale. The kids quickly noted that they looked like real money.” KidCalc- teaches number recognition, counting and math to preschoolers, kindergarteners and elementary school aged children using flash cards and puzzle games, with engaging artwork, animation and oice-overs. KidCalc includes animated addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division lessons. KidCalc is easily configurable to adjust how challenging the counting and math puzzles are, with settings for toddlers learning numbers, for preschoolers learning to add and subtract, and for elementary school aged kids learning to count as high as 1000 and to multiply and divide. The mathematical puzzle allows users to play with different representations of numbers, while developing their number sense to create strategies to help them solve problems. There are two modes of play, solve and race, and two difficulty levels. THE PUZZLE: Numerals are piled into three stacks. Each stack is randomly assigned a target sum. Move numerals and sets of numerals around with the tip of your finger from stack to stack until the sums of each stack equal the target sums represented at the bottom of the screen. Once the stacks match the sums, the screen clears and you get another challenge. The numbers are represented in eight ways that vary in their level of abstraction: preschoolers might start with the fingers, dice or ringlets, because they can be easily counted, while older children or adults can find a challenge with coins, Roman numerals, or the word spelled in Spanish.
